Layoffs hit long-time PR pro Jay Preble
Lightning owner OK Hockey on Wednesday finished a third day of layoffs. The company said about 25 employees total lost their jobs. The most prominent Wednesday was media relations specialist Jay Preble, who had been with the team 13 years.
"I've enjoyed my 13 years with the Lightning, and have had the opportunity to work with a lot of great people," Preble said in a text message. "Now, I'm looking forward to my next adventure after I spend some quality time at the soccer fields with my wife and two daughters."
Director of fan development David Cole also was let go this week as was Matt Hitchcock, who played ThunderBug. The character ThunderBug will live on, however, though likely not with one full-time actor.
On a personal note, let me say how much I appreciated Jay Preble's help in my time covering the Lightning. He always was professional and did what he could to help, even when the subjects were uncomfortable for the team. And he always answered the phone, a text or e-mail. As a reporter, that is what you want most.
