Festive atmosphere, and a tough crowd, at the Bell Centre

So, it's about two hours before the draft and already Montreal's Bell Centre is filling up with some very vocal Canadiens fans. Already they have booed the handful of Toronto fans who began chanting "Go Leafs Go."

But in a combination of good-natured ribbing and acknowledgment of a long-time heated rivalry, the fans booed the kid assigned to be a runner  for the Bruins brass sitting at their table on the draft floor. Why was he booed? He put on a black Bruins jersey.

It still is strongly believed the Lightning will take 6-foot-6 Swedish defenseman Victor Hedman with the No. 2 overall pick. But a sentiment is growing that if Hedman is taken by the Islanders with the first pick, Tampa Bay might be more inclined to deal the second pick for defensive help. Perhaps that is just the feeling around the draft that the Lightning has to do something to get defensive help. But the feeling is definitely stronger than it was even yesterday.

So, we'll see. Whatever happens, it seems to all come down to what the Islanders do, and New York GM Garth Snow has not given any indication of what is going on in his mind.
