For the 33rd time in NHL history, a Stanley Cup semifinal series is headed to a Game 7, where the home teams are 21-11.

The Lightning and Capitals meet Wednesday night at Amalie Arena in a win-or-go home game to decide who plays Vegas in the Stanley Cup final.

The Lightning is 5-2 all-time in Game 7s.

The Caps will play their NHL-high 11th Game 7 since the 2008 playoffs.

Wednesday's game is also the 172nd Game 7 in NHL playoff history.

The NHL provided a few notes on Game 7s:
– The team that scores first is 127-44 (.743), including a 1-1 mark in 2018. The Bruins beat the visiting Maple Leafs 7-4 in the quarterfinal series, and the Jets beat the Predators 5-1 in Nashville in the Western Conference semifinals.
– Home teams own a 100-71 (.585) advantage, including a 1-1 record in 2018.
– Forty-one Game 7s have required overtime (24.2%). Home teams have a 21-20 edge.
