Boyle expected to return tonight vs. Blue Jackets
F Brian Boyle is expected to play tonight against the Blue Jackets after missing two of the past three games because of an upper body injury.
“A little twirl (skate) yesterday. Hopefully I’ll keep progressing,” Boyle said. “It’s getting better. It’s frustrating, but it happens, especially this year. The schedule is a little funky.”
The Lightning are in the middle of a run where it is playing 14 games in 25 days with no more than one day off between games.
F J.T. Brown skated with his team this morning but will miss his second game because of an upper body injury. Coach Jon Cooper indicated after the morning skate that Brown could return for Sunday’s game at Boston.
D Anton Stralman is still out with an upper body injury. He participated in the morning skate but wore a red non-contact jersey.
“There’s a lot of injured guys lately,” F Jonathan Drouin said. “Getting those guys back to practice is nice to see for us.”
Ben Bishop will be in goal when the Lightning finish this quick two-game homestand.
Former Lightning coach Jon Tortorella returns to Amalie Arena as coach of the blue Jackets. Tortorella was 171-118-29 in six years with the Lightning, a run that included the 2004 Stanley Cup championship. He is 44-38-11, including 10-5-3, in a little more than a year with the Blue Jackets.
