Rangers' John Tortorella says Vinny Prospal is "(ticked) off" about Lightning buyout
Remember when Vinny Prospal did that television interview from the bench at the St. Pete Times Forum after scoring two goals in February 2008 to beat the Canadiens?
Prospal, then on left wing for the Lightning, said it was the biggest moment in his NHL career, and he was pleased to "shove it up to somebody's butt."
The somebody was then-Lightning coach John Tortorella, who had taken Prospal off Vinny Lecavalier's line and drastically reduced Prospal's ice time. The Canadiens game marked his return to Lecavalier's line. ... Read more
Zenon Konopka vs. Luke Gazdic 2 minutes, 32 seconds into the game
Zenon Konopka and Dallas' Luke Gazdic fought 2:32 into Wednesday's game, not a big deal in and of itself, but pertinent given the previous blog entry.
It was a fairly even go as both got in a couple of shots. If it matters who ends up on top, Konopka earned the fall when Gazdic took a big swing and missed and Konopka used Gazdic's momentum to get him to the ice. Gazdic is no pushover, either. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder had 127 penalty minutes last season in 63 games with OHLErie. He had 14 penalty minutes in two games with ECHL Idaho. ... Read more
Admirals coach Darren Rumble is fired

Lightning likely to name Boucher coach Thursday
Though the team continued to stay mum Wednesday, it appears the Lightning will officially announce the hiring of Guy Boucher as coach Thursday at an 11 a.m. news conference.
Boucher, 38, will be the franchise’s eighth coach, following Terry Crisp, Jacques Demers, Steve Ludzik, John Tortorella, Barry Melrose and Rick Tocchet. Rick Paterson was an interim coach. ... Read more
Left wing Simon Gagne out for tonight's game
Lightning left wing Simon Gagne will sit out tonight's game against Atlanta, coach Guy Boucher said. Gagne has a stiff neck after a hard check into the boards on Thursday and has been sick the last couple of days.
