Norfolk Admirals sign RW and former NHL All-Star Mark Parrish to tryout contract

Here is an interesting signing given the Tampa Bay Lightning's inability to find a consistent right wing for Vinny Lecavalier's line. The Norfolk Admirals, the Lightning's AHL affiliate, has signed former NHL All-Star Mark Parrish to a professional tryout contract.

Parrish, 32, has appeared in 704 NHL games with 216 goals and 169 assists. He appeared in the 2002 All-Star game. He had his only 30-goal season in 2001-02 for the Islanders. ... Read more

Norfolk right wing Mark Parrish clears waivers

Norfolk right wing Mark Parrish cleared waivers today, was signed to a one-year contract pro-rated to the rest of the season and has been assigned officially to the Admirals. The Lightning has 30 days to bring him to Tampa Bay if it desires before the clearance expires, though there is no immediate indication that is the plan. ... The Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday called up wing Mark Parrish from AHL Norfolk. He will play against the Rangers.

Should Tampa Bay Lightning GM Brian Lawton be "aggressive" at trade deadline?

Tampa Bay Lightning GM Brian Lawton said last week he wants to be "aggressive" at the March 3 trade deadline. He said prospective owner Jeff Vinik, who is already writing the payroll checks, has said he is not opposed to increasing payroll if the right deal comes along.

"I explained what we were doing as a management group and it didn't rankle Jeff," Lawton said. "We're looking to be aggressive. That's the way we've been preparing for the last month and a half as we see how the team is doing." ... Read more
