Tampa Bay Lightning's pursuit of Alex Tanguay seems stalled but not over, and other updates

What is the latest on the Tampa Bay Lightning's pursuit of Alex Tanguay? Though Tampa Bay GM Brian Lawton still will not confirm by name that the team is after the scoring wing, it is clear the Lightning would love Tanguay to play on a line with center Vinny Lecavalier, especially if you buy into the idea Marty St. Louis will start the season with center Steven Stamkos. 

What Lawton did say, speaking generally, is, "We're still interested. We have an offer out there. ... It takes time. People want to evaluate all their options, and they should. You want to make the right decision. I understand that."

The scuttlebutt is the competition is between the Lightning and Wild, and Tanguay's agent did not respond to a text message. Lawton did confirm, though, that barring another player move that would cut payroll, it does not appear the Lightning will increase its offer.

Tampa Bay Lightning re-signs right wing Martins Karsums

The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed right wing Martins Karsums to a one-year contract. The 5-foot-10, 198-pound Karsums played in 18 games for the Lightning after being acquired from Boston along with Matt Lashoff in the Mark Recchi trade. He had one goal and six assists in 24 NHL games last season.

Meszaros, Karsums make Olympic teams

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Andrej Meszaros has been named to Slovakia's 2010 Olympic team. It will be his second Olympics, following an appearance in 2006.

Meszaros has competed in the World Championships three times.

Right wing Martins Karsums, who is at AHL Norfolk, was named to Team Latvia. Karsums competed in the 2009 World Championships for Latvia.

Norfolk's Martins Karsums clears waivers, Lightning's Blair Jones on waivers

Norfolk forward Martins Karsums cleared waivers Monday, freeing him the play in Europe if he desires.
