It was big news when it happened.

Koivu apparently is still mad about the incident which came at the end of a Nov. 16, 2007 game in Vancouver. Ohlund got a four-game suspension and Koivu missed 24 games. ... Read more

Lundin back up; Ohlund "very close" to returning to action
The "whirlwind" week continues for defenseman Mike Lundin, who was called back up from AHL Norfolk just one day after getting sent down.
Lundin, whom coach Rick Tocchet said played well in Sunday's game against the Thrashers, was sent back and met up with Norfolk in Wilkes-Barre late Monday night. He was in the middle of practice Tuesday morning when he got pulled off the ice by coaches; he was coming back to Tampa, and is expected to play tonight.
"It’s a lot of traveling, but exciting," Lundin said. "I was obviously hoping, but not really expecting to get called up the first time. And so getting sent back down, I thought, 'Ok, I’ll be back down for a while and hopefully I'll l get a chance, and I definitely wasn’t expecting the very next day to be back on my way here. It's been a bit of a whirlwind, but I'm happy to be back."
How long Lundin stays remains to be seen. Tocchet said defenseman Mattias Ohlund is "very close" to returning after missing four games with a right ankle injury. Ohlund was at practice Wednesday, and although he won't play tonight, Tocchet says he's "day-to-day." ... Read more
Smaby sent down; Tortorella said it felt a "little weird" to return
The re-shuffling in the Lightning's surplus on defense continued Friday, with D Matt Smaby sent down to AHL Norfolk for conditioning. Coach Rick Tocchet said Smaby, who has yet to play in a game this season partly due to the crowded blueline, could play a lot of minutes for Norfolk this weekend before re-joining the Lightning.
Though Tocchet said he wanted to get Smaby in a game next week, it could be tough, with D Mattias Ohlund close to a return. Ohlund won't play tonight, but said he's hoping to get back pretty soon. ... Read more

Tampa Bay Lightning lineup changes for Sunday's game with the Devils
The teams had to use Friday’s lineups, which meant C Jeff Halpern, who on Saturday played his first game after healing from a lower-body injury, was back in the press box. D Andrej Meszaros, scratched Friday, played because D Matt Smaby is out with an upper-body injury sustained in Saturday’s loss to the Flyers. Smaby seemed to go shoulder first into the side boards after he got tangled up with Philadelphia’s Danny Briere. D David Hale, also scratched Friday, replaced D Mattias Ohlund, out with a stomach virus. The Devils lineup was the same. ... Read more

Tampa Bay Lightning defeseman Mattias Ohlund sounds determined to play
The question was asked of Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund on Tuesday if there had been any discussions about just shutting him down at this point of the season to give his badly sprained left ankle more time to heal and eliminate the possibility of aggravating the injury. But Ohlund said that is not a consideration.
"You're a professional athlete, and when you can play you play," he said. ... Read more
Downie and Ohlund in, Mihalik up and the Tampa Bay Lightning goes with seven D
Lots of moving parts for the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday as it gets ready for the game with the very upset Sabres, but more on that later. Right wing Steve Downie (knee) is likely to play, but defensemen David Hale (right leg) and Kurtis Foster (head) will not. Defenseman Mattias Ohlund, who has missed eight games with a sprained left ankle is in as well as Matt Smaby, who has been a healthy scratch for the past four.
