The Tampa Bay Lightning claimed Nate Thompson off waivers from the Islanders. The center will join the Lightning, though because of travel likely will not play tonight against the Maple Leafs. With Tampa Bay at the roster limit of 23, expect a corresponding move to be announced later today.

Tampa Bay Lightning signs center Nate Thompson to one-year deal, avoids arbitration

The Tampa Bay Lightning avoided arbitration with Nate Thompson by signing the center to a one-year, $625,000 deal.

Thompson, 25, had a goal and four points in 32 games for Tampa Bay after being claimed off waivers in January from the Islanders. Still, Thompson became a valuable defensive player and helped out on the penalty kill. Good for both sides for avoiding arbitration, a messy process that sometimes leaves hard feelings.
