Tampa Bay Lightning adds road exhibition game against AHL affiliate in Norfolk
The Lightning added to an already grueling preseason schedule by adding a game against its AHL affiliate in Norfolk, Sept. 25 at Scope Arena. Tampa Bay now has eight preseason games (only one at home), including five games in five nights all on the road, ending with the game against the Admirals.
While creating a road trip that covers four time zones, the game is a nice nod to an affiliate that has taken it on the chin during its two years with the Lightning, finishing out of the playoffs both seasons after 18 straight seasons in the playoffs. As we know, this is a crucial season in the relationship between the clubs as the five-year agreement between them has an out clause for both sides after three years. ... Read more
Jim Johnson is named associate coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning's affiliate in Norfolk
It shouldn't come as a surprise that former NHL player Jim Johnson was named Darren Rumble's associate coach at AHL Norfolk. Lightning GM Brian Lawton had floated Johnson's name last week. He also has been around training camp and even worked the bench during a scrimmage. Lawton also said Leigh Mendelson had agreed to terms as the strength coach and video coach.

Norfolk Admirals sign RW and former NHL All-Star Mark Parrish to tryout contract
Here is an interesting signing given the Tampa Bay Lightning's inability to find a consistent right wing for Vinny Lecavalier's line. The Norfolk Admirals, the Lightning's AHL affiliate, has signed former NHL All-Star Mark Parrish to a professional tryout contract.
Parrish, 32, has appeared in 704 NHL games with 216 goals and 169 assists. He appeared in the 2002 All-Star game. He had his only 30-goal season in 2001-02 for the Islanders. ... Read more
Lukas Krajicek's time with the Tampa Bay Lightning appears to be over
Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Brian Lawton said recently demoted defenseman Lukas Krajicek "won't be on re-entry (waivers) under any circumstances." That means Krajicek's time with the Lightning is over while the team tries to work on a trade.
Lawton said there was some interest in Krajicek before he was sent down to AHL Norfolk on Dec. 12, but the deals would have been for an asset coming back, something in which the team was not interested. So, for now, Krajicek is collecting on his $1.475 million contract as a minor leaguer. ... Read more
Norfolk right wing Mark Parrish clears waivers
Just some housekeeping:
Norfolk right wing Mark Parrish cleared waivers today, was signed to a one-year contract pro-rated to the rest of the season and has been assigned officially to the Admirals. The Lightning has 30 days to bring him to Tampa Bay if it desires before the clearance expires, though there is no immediate indication that is the plan. ... Read more

Mike Vernace clears waivers, goes to Norfolk
Sorry this was a little slow getting on the site, but just landed in Phoenix for Saturday's game. Anyway, as expected, defenseman Mike Vernace cleared waivers and was assigned to AHL Norfolk. The move leaves Tampa Bay one under the 23-player roster limit with left wing Simon Gagne on injured reserve with a strained neck. Gagne is eligible to come off waivers today, though he was not on the plane to Arizona.
Norfolk G Cedrick Desjardins reinjures shoulder, could be out for the rest of the season, GM says
The Tampa Bay Lightning really likes goaltender Cedrick Desjardins. Some believe he might even be in the team's plans for next season as a backup. Right now, though, Tampa Bay just wants to see AHL Norfolk's goalie get healthy.
Desjardins on Wednesday in practice aggravated the right-shoulder injury that has bothered him since mid January. And while Admirals general manager Julien BriseBois said Desjardins will try to rehab to avoid surgery, there is a chance he could be done for the season. ... Read more
