Lecavalier to make 'multimillion-dollar' announcement

TAMPA -- Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier is holding a news conference today at 2:30 to make "an important announcement with multimillion dollar implications for the Tampa Bay area," according to a statement from the team.

The news release notes that someone from the Vincent Lecavalier Foundation is involved in the event, signalling the "important announcement" has a charitable aim.

Richards: Vinny trade rumors "crazy" and "unfortunate"

Former Lightning star Brad Richards knows a little what his close friend Vinny Lecavalier has gone through the past few days with all the trade rumors swirling.

After all, Richards - a cornerstone during the Lightning 2004 Stanley Cup run - was traded to the Stars last season after spending his entire career with Tampa Bay. But Richards, who will be in town to play Tampa Bay for the first time Monday, said Friday afternoon that the rumors are "unfortunate" and "something (Vinny) shouldn't have to deal with." ... Vinny Lecavalier to have wrist surgery

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier will have wrist surgery Friday, ending his season. Lecavalier was scheduled to have surgery on the wrist last summer, but it was postponed after Lecavalier injured his right shoulder. Dr. A Lee Osterman will perform the arthroscopic procedure at the Philadelphia Hand Center. Osterman successfully operated on Lecavalier's left wrist in 2007.

For months there have been rumors Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier could be dealt. They hit a crescendo this weekend during the draft in Montreal. The event was being held in Lecavalier's home town. His new 11-year, $85 million contract takes effect on Wednesday, and with it a no-move clause, which gives him the right to approve any transaction.
