Capologist Ryan Martin to stay with Red Wings
Perhaps the Tampa Bay Lightning won't be the Red Wings South after all. The Detroit Free-Press reported on Tuesday that Detroit capologist Ryan Martin will stay with Detroit, shunning an offer from Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman.
"It was a difficult decision, but also a good one," Martin told the Free-Press.
Martin, 40, has been with the Red Wings since 2005 as the team's director of hockey operations. Part of his responsibilities was overseeing the team's salary cap compliance. He had worked closely with Yzerman the past four years after Yzerman transitioned from player to a Red Wings vice president.
"It was an outstanding professional opportunity for me," Martin said of Tampa Bay. "But at the end of the day, weighing all the professional and personal aspects and the family situation, we felt Detroit a better situation."
