Could supplemental discipline be coming for LW Mattias Ritola after he left feet on hit?
Tampa Bay Lightning left wing Mattias Ritola deserved the five-minute major penalty he received in the second period of Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Islanders for his hit on Matt Mouslon. And coach Guy Boucher did not discount that the league may decide to hand out supplemental discipline.
"If it's a hit that deserves a suspension, you have to live with what you do," Boucher said after the game.
Ritola not only hit Moulson from behind into the side boards, he left his feet and hit Moulson with an elbow in the back of the head. The check was uncharacteristic for Ritola, who had zero penalty minutes in 11 games entering Wednesday.
Boucher said he needed to look at the hit on video before he could comment specifically. But he said of Ritola, "I know him. He's not a cheap-shot guy at all. If it's a bad hit, it's a bad mistake."
