Downie out tonight: Tyrell excited to be back

Lightning right wing Steve Downie (upper body) will not play tonight against the Panthers. Downie, who suffered the undisclosed injury in Tuesday's game, was on the trip to Fort Lauderdale and was working out off-ice during today's morning skate. Coach Guy Boucher didn't have an update on Downie or a timetable for his return. Forward Dana Tyrell, called up yesterday, will be inserted into the lineup with Nate Thompson and Adam Hall, a line that worked so well together last season. Tyrell, one of the last cuts in camp, admitted he was disappointed and a little caught off guard, but took the situation in stride and played well with AHL Norfolk. Boucher praised Tyrell for how he handled everything, said he'd bring some energy, speed to the lineup, pointing out that, pound for pound physically, he may be the strongest player they have. - Joe Smith
