Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros had an interesting day against his former team on Thursday. The former Tampa Bay Lightning blue liner scored his first goal of the season and also was involved in a hit on Dana Tyrell that the Lightning wing called "dirty."

Lightning star Steven Stamkos, listening to Tyrell's conversation with a reporter, chimed in he believes the hit was dirty as well.

Meszaros submarined Tyrell in open ice with fewer than four minutes left in the third period and got two minutes for clipping (going for the knees) and two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct when he threw his stick into the penalty box. Tyrell said Meszaros got him on the knees and below. But Meszaros had a different take.

"I don't know," Meszaros said. "I went to hit that guy, and I don't know. The referee called it, so I don't care. I mean, I don't think it was a penalty, but he thought it was, so he gave me two minutes plus two unsportsmanlike, tough one." 

Meszaros said he did not talk to the referees at the time.

"I didn't say anything bad. I just threw my stick in the penalty box," he said. "I guess that's why. I don't know. I told him something after the game, but I'm not going to say it, but during (the hit) I didn't say anything."

The Flyers play against Saturday against the Capitals. If the NHL is to give supplementary discipline, it will be before the game.
