TSN was in town to see Stamkos on Friday, or at least the Lightning's marketing campaign around the player they will make the top selection of the NHL draft on June 20. The Lightning swathed its employees in "Seen Stamkos" gear and hung banners from the arena ceiling to provide the Canadian sports network some B-roll for its coverage.
Stamkos was not in town. Hopefully he wasn't somewhere being made to do this again.
+ Barry Melrose has laid low since the Stanley Cup Finals ended and Internet squawk over his potential hire as diminished some, not coincidently after GM Jay Feaster said commissioner Gary Bettman told new owner Oren Koules not to act like an owner "until you own it."
+ San Jose, which like Atlanta, Florida, Ottawa and Toronto needs a coach, has apparently asked permission to speak with fired coach John Tortorella. The Leafs have offered a contract to Ron Wilson.
