Guess Vinny Lecavalier and Alex Tanguay will get (occasional) help breaking their slumps after all
Here's an interesting note as we head into Saturday's game with the Penguins: Marty St. Louis is starting on right wing with -- Vinny Lecavalier and Alex Tanguay.
No doubt St. Louis will remain on his original line with Steven Stamkos and Ryan Malone, and who knows how many shifts he will take with Lecavalier, but with left wing Todd Fedoruk a healthy scratch and the team going with seven defensemen (David Hale is in), it makes sense St. Louis could double-shift.
When asked if he had thought about using St. Louis on Lecavalier's line to perhaps give a jump start to Lecavalier and Tanguay, neither of which has a goal this season, coach Rick Tocchet said he did not see the value breaking up Stamkos' line. Well, this way he doesn't have to.
We'll see where Steve Downie plays and how much St. Louis plays with Lecavalier's line once the game starts. Still, given the conversation this morning, the pregame setup is interesting.
UPDATE: With just seven forwards, Tocchet has his lines all over the map. St. Louis has played on Stamkos' line and Lecavalier's. Downie has been on Lecavalier's line and Konopka's. Tanguay also has been on Konopka's line, as has James Wright.
Enjoy the movable parts.
