Lightning wing Matt Pettinger twisted (at the least) his right knee during practice and had to be helped skating off the ice. Word from the training room was that he hit a rut in the St. Pete Times ice. He will be evaluated on Wednesday.
In other updates, goaltender Mike Smith practiced and indicated he is ready to play. Karri Ramo was already sent down to AHL Norfolk, so at the very least, Smith will be dressed. No official word on if he will play but wouldn't be surprised. The team classified Smith's injury as lower body, but the goalie said he had a small procedure done to remove an irritated nerve. Smith said he had hernia surgery four years ago and the nerve in the area had gotten painful, so he had it addressed. Said he should have no ill effects.
Lukas Krajicek said what the team called a lower-body injury was a left knee strain. He said he should be ready to play Wednesday, but Jamie Heward had not been sent back to Norfolk yet, and coach Rick Tocchet said he might wait till Wednesday to make a final call on Krajicek.
Center Chris Gratton (knee) and wing Gary Roberts (upper body) did not practice on Tuesday.
