Jokinen clears waivers, no destination yet
Lightning forward Jussi Jokinen cleared waivers at noon today but the team has yet to assign him to AHL Norfolk. GM Brian Lawton indicated Wednesday that Jokinen, if he cleared, would be on his way to the minors. Still could happen, it just hasn't happened yet. Lawton said Wednesday he had spoken to a team that seemed to have interest in claiming Jokinen. Perhaps the team is waiting to claim Jokinen on re-call waivers which would halve the salary responsibility.
Jokinen, 25, acquired in February from the Stars as part of the Brad Richards deal, has six goals this season but zero in 30 games under coach Rick Tocchet. It is the second time Jokinen has cleared waivers this season. The first time was supposed to be a "wake-up call" for Jokinen to play himself out of his slump.
