Lightning Foundation awards grants to local organizations

From the team:

The Tampa Bay Lightning and The Lightning Foundation will award financial grants totaling more than $82,000 to 18 deserving local organizations on Wednesday, May 20 at a reception to be held at the St. Pete Times Forum. The Lightning’s fourth annual Community Grant Awards and Donor Recognition Reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Icons Restaurant. The funds were raised by the foundation throughout the 2008-09 season.

The Lightning Foundation will also announce the winners of the 3rd Annual Dave Andreychuk College Scholarship, which will be awarded to two deserving high school seniors who are members of a Hillsborough or Pinellas County High School hockey team.

Each grant applicant was asked to detail its organization, its proposed program or project and how the respective project matches under the Lightning Foundation’s funding guidelines. Applications were fully reviewed and evaluated by the foundation’s board of directors before grant award recipients were selected.

The Lightning Foundation, the non-profit charity arm of the Tampa Bay Lightning, is dedicated to the support of local organizations that enrich and enhance the lives of those living throughout the Tampa Bay community. In gratitude for the support and passion of our community, the Foundation will focus its unique resources to advance amateur hockey and educational enrichment opportunities for children, along with medical research and treatment for those in need. Our goal is to make Tampa Bay a better place to live, work and play!
