Lightning GM Brian Lawton on Alex Tanguay
Here's some comments from Lightning general manager Brian Lawton about the team agreeing to a deal with wing Alex Tanguay from the team's Fan Fest.
On when the deal will be finalized:
"We have to go through the process of doing our due diligence. We're hoping to announce a completed signing early in the week."
On how big a get is this:
"we believe Alex has the type of skill and is the right type of fit as a hockey player and as a person to help us get back to winning consistently so we're very, very excited.
"We really think it’s a great situation for both parties here. It’s a chance for him to play with some really high-end, high-skill players, which we think he is. And we think together, it should be a nice combination.
"We’re very pleased with the way this has worked out. We had other options and backup plans, but we really got the guy we wanted.
On filling the need at foward:
"We were light. We knew it. All summer, we knew we were light one top six forward. Now, we’ve got five really incredible players. ... That means we’ll going to have to count on one of our other young players to earn a spot or somebody on the team to step up. this allows a coach to move pairs around and have a little extra juice on one of the lines.
Rick and I have talked about this player for months.
We spent a long time on this, a long time.
We have only a certain amount of resources and we have to work extremely hard to get the right people at the right price.
We’re very pleased with the way this has worked out. We had other options and backup plans, but we really got the guy we wanted.
