Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Brian Lawton has taken over the job of general manager for AHL Norfolk, and reassigned former Norfolk general manager Mike Butters as a Lightning pro scout. Butters had held the job for one season -- a season in which the Admirals missed the playoffs -- and has two left on his contract.

Lawton pointed out this is not a cost-cutting move, as Butters still is being paid.

"At the end of the day, it's a better fit for us and the organization," Lawton said. "We're streamlining  a lot of what we're doing and reorganizing so we can get the most value and to be more efficient."

He added he has no intention of hiring a new GM any time soon.

"I'm in it for the season," he said.

Lawton said Butters, who has a home in Helena, Mont., where he is co-owner of the junior Bighorns, will scout the west.
