Lightning likely to name Boucher coach Thursday

Though the team continued to stay mum Wednesday, it appears the Lightning will officially announce the hiring of Guy Boucher as coach Thursday at an 11 a.m. news conference.

Boucher, 38, will be the franchise’s eighth coach, following Terry Crisp, Jacques Demers, Steve Ludzik, John Tortorella, Barry Melrose and Rick Tocchet. Rick Paterson was an interim coach.

Boucher, the AHL coach of the year this season with Hamilton, and new Lightning GM Steve Yzerman reportedly were ironing out the final details of what’s believed to be a four-year deal Wednesday. Why the wait for official word? The NHL didn’t want teams making news on the day of a Stanley Cup game. Game 6 was Wednesday night.
