Lockout official, Tampa Bay Lightning sends letter to ticket holders asking for support, patience

The Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday emailed the following letter from chief executive officer Tod Leiweke to season ticket holders asking for their support and patience during the player lockout:

Lightning Season Ticket Members,

As you may know, the current Collective Bargaining Agreement between the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association expired on September 15th. There is a possibility that training camps may not open on time and scheduled preseason and regular season games may be cancelled.

I write today asking for both your support and patience. We have endeavored to build a world class franchise here in Tampa Bay and we are proud to report very strong results in just over two years under the ownership of Jeff Vinik. We have invested private capital in a major arena renovation aimed at delivering an unmatched game presentation and fan experience, and chartered our Lightning on a course to become true community leaders.

Our future on the ice is promising under the leadership of General Manager Steve Yzerman as he has upgraded the roster this summer; shoring up key areas on defense and at goaltender and adding two forwards that will also impact our team positively in 2012-13. Off the ice we continue to make improvements to the Tampa Bay Times Forum, including a dramatic high-definition scoreboard along with new and expanded arena artwork celebrating Tampa Bay.

Your partnership is critical, not only in cheering our team on to winning, but as the Lightning continue to build a successful franchise. Thanks in part to you, the Lightning increased our support base and local revenues over the past two seasons, but Tampa Bay needs a properly aligned CBA to assure long term stability, the opportunity to regularly compete for the Stanley Cup and a premier guest experience at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Our priority is to put in place a world class franchise in Tampa Bay for the next 20 years.

While the negotiations continue, know that our business and hockey operations units are preparing for the 2012-13 season to begin and we look forward to presenting a celebration of the team’s 20th Anniversary. We have prepared a Lightning Loyalty Reward program to fairly compensate season ticket members for any missed games, should that occur and will communicate that program to you shortly. If you have any questions, please contact our Season Ticket Membership team at 813.301.6800.

Thank you for both your support and patience during this process.

Tod Leiweke
Chief Executive Officer
