NHL cancels games through Nov. 1
In what should be a surprise to no one after talks angrily broke off on Thursday, the NHL canceled games through Nov. 1. As bad as that sounds, it still leaves open the possibility of an 82-game schedule if the owners and Players' Association can come to a quick resolution on a collective bargaining agreement and get training camps opened by Oct. 26.
The league previously canceled games through Oct. 24.
Lightning games canceled on Friday were Oct. 25 at Calgary, Oct. 26 at Edmonton, Oct. 28 at Vancouver and Nov. 1 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum against the Jets.
If the season begins Nov. 2, Tampa Bay would start with a five-game homestand against the Wild, Capitals, Bruins, Senators and Hurricanes. That said, no formal negotiating sessions are scheduled.
