Player rep Dominic Moore believes realignment will be resolved: "It's just a matter of time"

The NHL's plan for dramatic realignment may not be implemented starting next year, thanks to the players association opposing the changes on Friday.

But Lightning player rep, C Dominic Moore, believes it'll eventually occur, the two sides just need to work through some players concerns regarding travel and playoff format. The realignment proposed would go from six divisions to four conferences, two with eight teams and two with seven, with four from each making the playoffs. Tampa Bay would be put in a conference with Florida, Toronto, Montreal, Buffalo, Boston and Ottawa, meaning a lot of frequent flier miles.

Moore knew the league had discussed more efficient road trips, but he said the players wanted to see potential mock schedules to see how it'd work.

"I think there's solutions out there, it's not going to be a big problem," Moore said. "It's just a matter of setting aside some time and going through these issues and analyzing some of the information that we can come up with in terms of scheduling, and formats of determining playoff teams. I'm sure it won't be anything too difficult to come up with."
