Purcell and Shannon are healthy scratches; Jones and Pyatt in
Lightning wing Teddy Purcell said he has "no one to blame but myself" for being a healthy scratch tonight against the Panthers.
Coach Guy Boucher had benched the top-six forward in Thursday's third period, saying he wasn't involved enough in battles. And Purcell knows what he has to improve.
"I have to move my feet," Purcell said. "Last game I just didn't move my feet and obviously got away from the game plan, what coach wants us to do. I have no one to blame but myself."
Wing Ryan Shannon, in his first season with the Lightning after signing as a free agent, was also scratched, with Boucher saying he's still adjusting to the team's system.
"It's just a lot of little things when it comes to when you have space and time - in some situations, now you don't have it," Shannon said. "Other times you do have time. It's just about collaborating it and figuring out when you can be dangerous, and when you just live to fight another day."
Boucher put in forwards Blair Jones and Tom Pyatt, saying they bring the necessary work ethic, are reliable defensively and can be relentless.
That's what Boucher wants to see more from out of Purcell, who was expected to have a large role this year on the second line following a breakout postseason and signing a two-year, $4.725 million deal in the offseason.
"I guess it's hard as a pro to get back to where you were when you last finished," Purcell said. "I just have to do a better job of getting that emotion level back up and find my game like I did in the playoffs."
Said Boucher: "He's an extremely skilled player, very smart that can make plays. But there's a lot more to the game than that. And 95 percent of the game has nothing to do with plays, so it's important whether it's him or anybody else that we're all on th same page."
Other notes from morning skate: G Mathieu Garon will be in net tonight, his second start with the Lightning.....D Matt Gilroy will also play, taking the spot of D Bruno Gervais, who played the last two games. Boucher said it'll be a day-to-day thing determining which of the two is in the lineup, and he acknowledged both could be in there at some point....Here's what the lines look like at morning skate: Connolly-Stamkos-St. Louis .....Lecavalier-Malone-Thompson....Ritola-Moore-Downie.....Hall-Jones-Pyatt...
