Scratches and starters

Interesting crowd reaction after the PA announcer delivered the scratches....

The Lightning's scratches included the usual suspects - Mark Denis and Luke Richardson. But when the announcer said "Ruslan Fedotenko," many in the crowd moaned a collective "oooooooooh," in the St. Pete Times Forum.....

The scratch may have come to the surprise of some fans, but the writing appeared on the wall the past few days, with John Tortorella publicly stating his disappointment in Feds lack of production on Friday afternoon, then dressing Feds, but not playing him in Game 5.

As Tortorella said, "We're not going to die on the vine with him."

Whether the Lightning's season dies this afternoon in the must-win Game 6, time will only tell.

The Devils will start John Madden's line, with Jay Pandolfo and Sergei Brylin; defenseman Colin White is out for the fourth straight game with a sore back. The Lightning will open up with Vinny, Marty and Prospal up front, and Dan Boyle with Paul Ranger at the blueline.

One forward who will likely pick up the slack for Fedotenko's ice time is Andreas Karlsson, who logged a season-high 14 minutes in Game 5. He impressed Tortorella enough for the coach to say he's "kicking himself," for not giving Andreas a chance early on...
