Tampa Bay Lightning C Steven Stamkos is the NHL's player of the month for October



Steven Stamkos on Tuesday was named the NHL's player of the month for October. He is the fourth Tampa Bay Lightning player to get that honor. Vinny Lecavalier, Marty St. Louis and Nikolai Khabibulin each were named twice. Stamkos is the first Tampa Bay player named since Lecavalier in November 2007.

Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas was second. Avalanche right wing Chris Stewart was third.

Here are the pertinent stats:

Stamkos leads the league with 19 points in 10 games with nine goals and 10 assists, and is tied for second in the league at plus-9. He had five multi-point games and two winning goals.

Thomas was 6-0-0 in six starts with a league-leading 0.50 goals-against average, a .984 save percentage and three shutouts. He allowed one goal or fewer in each game. He is the first Bruins goalie since Cecil "Tiny" Thomas in 1937-38 to start a season 6-0-0.

Stewart was second to Stamkos in scoring with 16 points with nine goals and seven assists. He also tied for the league lead with three winning goals.
