Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier leaves game at Chicago with injury
Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier was forced to leave Sunday's game at Chicago with an injury that occurred when Blackhawks left wing Michael Frolik inadvertently hit him across the face with his stick blade. The incident happened 4:42 into the second period.
Lecavalier was cut above the right eye (corrected) and needed three stitches. He had minor vision issues, the team reported that might be caused by a scratched cornea. That is generally not considered serious. Lecavalier will be re-evaluated Monday.
Frolik got a four-minute high-sticking penalty. Lecavalier, who initially went to the ice, skated off on his own, but did not return. Lecavalier gave the Lightning its 1-0 lead with his 21st goal of the season, on the power play, in the first period.
