Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier will play Thursday against the Islanders
Guess the new splint really did the trick. Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier, who is wearing a splint to protect the injured knuckle on his right index finger, was out for pregame warmups and will play against the Islanders.
Lecavalier and coach Guy Boucher had to weight whether playing Lecavalier was worth the risk of aggravating the injury. Boucher said earlier today the only way Lecavalier would play is if he got a "green light" from the medical staff. Lecavalier, while admitting the finger is still a bit weak, said the splint taped between his index finger and middle finger helped the functionality of the finger. It's still not 100 percent, Lecavalier said, but it is "10 times better" than it was on Wednesday.
With Lecavalier in the lineup, Mattias Ritola and defensemen Mike Vernace and Mattias Ohlund (knee) were scratched.
