Tampa Bay Lightning coach Rick Tocchet shakes it up, puts Vinny Lecavalier on wing
Don't say we didn't warn you this was coming. Tampa Bay Lightning coach Rick Tocchet, calling it a "change of scenery," put struggling captain Vinny Lecavalier on a line with center Paul Szczechura and right wing Steve Downie for Friday's game with the Devils at the Prudential Center.
Haven't seen the other lines yet, but the shift is the latest attempt to get Lecavalier going. The Lightning has tried just about everything else, why not this?
The thing is, that experiment didn't last very long, at least in the first period. In fact, it was difficult to keep track of the lines at all as Tocchet had players all over the place. Lecavalier was even on the fourth line for a shift with Zenon Konopka and Stephane Veilleux. As the period went on, though, he was more regularly at center with his regular linemates Jeff Halpern and Alex Tanguay.
Tanguay set up Lecavalier beautifully in the slot toward the end of the first period. But Lecavalier, who admitted the other day that his season-long slump has him tensing up around the net, fumbled the puck and his shot was blocked.
