Tampa Bay Lightning cuts 21 players, reduces preseason roster to 28



The Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday cut 21 players, reducing its camp roster to 28. The most notable cut was right wing Niklas Persson, an accomplished Swedish player who it was believed was at one time a front-runner to make the squad.  It is believed Perrsson has an option to retun to Europe. Players who must clear waivers before they can go to their new assignment are Mike Angelidis, Mitch Fritz, Blair Jones, Vladimir Mihalik, Juraj Simek and Paul Szczechura.

The Lightning will close out their preseason schedule this weekend with a home-and-home series with the Florida Panthers. Tampa Bay will visit the Panthers on Friday night before coming home to host them on Saturday night at the St. Pete Times Forum.
