Tampa Bay Lightning to decide Sunday if RW Steve Downie will play versus the Wild
Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Steve Downie, who has missed three games with a neck/back strain, might be available for Sunday's matchup with the Wild, the team said.
"Steve Downie is improving daily," spokesman Bill Wickett said, "and a decision on his availability for (Sunday's) game will be made after the 9:30 a.m. morning skate."
Wickett did not address it specifically, but the assumption is any tests Downie had for a concussion were negative.
Downie, who had been battling a strained back, was checked from behind and hit in the back of the head on Nov. 4 by Kings defenseman Drew Doughty, causing pain in the back of the neck. Downie was held out, in part, while the team determined whether the pain was an exacerbation of his back strain, a separate event or a concussion symptom.
