USA Hockey announced today that Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mike Lundin was named to the U.S. national team that will play at the world championship May 7-23 in Germany. It will be Lundin's Team USA debut.

Lundin, 25, had a breakout season with the Lightning after his second call-up in December from AHL Norfolk. He had career highs of three goals and 10 assists in 49 games, was minus-4 and averaged 21:56 of ice time. He seemed to get better as the season went on, and then-coach Rick Tocchet called Lundin the Lightning's best defenseman by the end of the season.

Lundin also distinguished himself by playing through injury for at least the final month of the season. He could be seen in the locker room after games walking around with ice packs on both ankles, but it was his left that was most bothersome from being hit with a shot.

Lundin is a restricted free agent, though he has arbitration rights.
