Tampa Bay Lightning G Lindback to play in Finland
Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Anders Lindback will play for Ilves Tampere during the NHL lockout, agent Michael Deutsch said Saturday.
Lindback, 24, acquired over the summer from the Predators to be Tampa Bay's long-term answer in net, had been skating with teammates at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon but more recently has been in his native Sweden mulling offers.
Lindback, whom Deutsch said is "chomping at the bit" to play with the Lightning, could use the ice time as he has played just 38 games the past two seasons as backup to Nashville's Pekka Rinne.
Lindback is the third Lightning player to head for Europe, joining defenseman Victor Hedman (Astana Barys of the KHL) and forward Adam Hall (Ravensburg in Germany). Center Nate Thompson is playing for ECHL Alaska in his hometown of Anchorage. Goalie Mathieu Garon is in Quebec province, playing a series of exhibition games with fellow NHLers.
