Tampa Bay Lightning G Mike Smith injured at morning skate; status uncertain
Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Mike Smith had to leave Monday's morning skate with a left-knee injury. Smith was supposed to start tonight against the Hurricanes, but his status is unclear and he was sent to a doctor for more evaluation.
Smith seemed to be clipped by teammate Simon Gagne as Gagne skated around the net. Smith went down and stayed down for several minutes while being looked at by head athletic trainer Tommy Mulligan. Smith got to his feet and flexed his leg and skated off under his own power. Cedrick Desjardins, called up Monday from AHL Norfolk for a week of training with goaltenders coach Frantz Jean, took Smith's place in practice. More info as it becomes available.
