Tampa Bay Lightning opens the 2010-11 season Oct. 9 at home against Atlanta

June

The Tampa Bay Lightning opens its season Oct. 9 at home against the Thrashers. The road opener, and season's second game, is Oct. 13 at Montreal, an early homecoming for new Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher.

It is an odd schedule with 13 of the team's first 20 games on the road, and 10 of 15 November games on the road. There also is a 12-game home stand, the longest in franchise history, from Jan. 23 through Feb. 25. Tampa Bay plays 10 of 11 February games at home. There are 17 back-to-backs. And if the Lightning needs a late push to get into the playoffs, it will face a brutal closing stretch March 29-April 9 versus Ottawa and Pittsburgh at home, on the road at Minnesota, Chicago and Buffalo, at home for Florida and on the road to finish at Carolina.

Notable home matchups: The Penguins and Sidney Crosby are in town Oct. 27 and March 31, and the Red Wings are in town Feb. 17.  The Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks are in town March 9.
