Tampa Bay Lightning sends qualifying offers to 10 players; 3 others are cut loose
The Tampa Bay Lightning had until June 28 to send qualifying offers to its restricted free agents in order to keep their negotiating rights. But the team, under general manager Steve Yzerman, got it done early, sending out 10 offers Wednesday while not sending offers to three others, basically setting them free to sign with any other team.
Players sent offers are forwards Steve Downie, Blair Jones, Martins Karsums, Teddy Purcell, Juraj Simek, Paul Szczechura and Nate Thompson, and defensemen Mike Lundin, Vladimir Mihalik and Paul Ranger.
As expected, forwards Chris Lawrence, Lauri Tukonen and Radek Smolenak were cut loose.
