Tampa Bay Lightning signs G Riku Helenius
The Lightning has signed Finnish goaltender Riku Helenius to a two-year contract. The deal is expected to be announced Thursday.
There was no immediate word from the team on compensation, but Canada's RDS Network reported the $1.2 million deal pays $550,000 next season as a two-way contract and $650,000 in 2013-14 as a one-way.
Helenius, 24, was drafted 15th overall by the Lightning in 2006, but spent the past three seasons in Europe. He led Jyp last season to the Finnish elite league championship with a 1.64 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage in the regular season.
The transaction does not end the Lightning's search for a No. 1 goalie.
