Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos practices, probably won't play Sunday

Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos told reporters in Germany he felt good after a Saturday practice and believes he is ready to play for Canada on Sunday against Sweden. Stamkos sustained a mild concussion Wednesday from an elbow to the jaw by Switzerland's Timo Helbling. Stamkos skated for about an hour during an optional skate, reports said.

"I feel really good, actually," Stamkos told reporters in Germany. "The first day was a little tough. The last couple of days I've been getting better every day. I probably feel the best I felt right now after that skate. I feel I could play the next game, but that will be up to the medical staff."

Canada coach Craig MacTavish told reporters he does not believe Stamkos will play, a nod to precaution and the value the 50-goal scorer has to the Lightning.

Still Stamkos said, "I have no headache today, so it's the best day so far."

Stamkos has two goals and an assist in three games for Canada.
