Tampa Bay Lightning trims training camp roster by four to 43

The Tampa Bay Lightning made four cuts on Thursday to trim its training camp roster to 43, sending defensemen Kevin Quick and Scott Jackson, and centers Mitch Fadden and Chris Lawrence to AHL Norfolk.

The most interesting cut was Quick, whom Norfolk coach Darren Rumble criticized for coming to camp overweight. Quick is listed in the training camp guide at 6-foot, 175 pounds. Rumble said Quick put on 15 pounds over the summer.

Lightning coach Rick Tocchet was a bit more diplomatic.

"We have a log jam at defense, and it's just a pecking order," he said. "we have to get to the meat of our team. Unfortunately, he's one of those guys. He's not ready. He knows it, but he's a hell of a prospect for us. We're not giving up on him."

Quick, 21, had a goal and nine points in 49 games last season for Norfolk. He had an assist in six games for the Lightning.
