Tampa Bay Lightning wing Ryan Shannon to miss 2 to 4 weeks with a lower body injury

As if the Tampa Bay Lightning needed any more headaches, wing Ryan Shannon will be out two to four weeks, the team said, with a lower-body injury sustained during Wednesday's 7-2 drubbing by the Sharks.

It's been that kind of season for Tampa Bay which on Wednesday got back Marty St. Louis, who had missed five games with facial fractures from a puck to the face at a Dec. 8 morning skate.

Shannon, 28, for the most part has been a disappointment for the Lightning. Signed to a one-year, $625 ,000 contract, he has two goals and seven points in 25 games and is minus-7 while averaging 12:45 of ice time. At tone time thought to be a candidate to replace Simon Gagne as a top-six forward, Shannon has played a mostly third line role.

Learning to use his speed within coach Guy Boucher's system was talked about as a reason for Shannon's meager production. But more than a third of the way into the season, Shannon has not improved as hoped.

Still, the Lightning can ill afford another injury as center Nate Thompson and defenseman Matt Gilroy did not play Wednesday because of lower-body injuries.

Shannon will be re-evaluated when the team gets back from Friday's game in Denver
