Tampa Bay Lightning's Ryan Malone cut by teammate's stick blade at informal lockout skate
A bleeding Ryan Malone left the ice Monday after he inadvertently was cut above his right eye by the stick blade of Tampa Bay Lightning teammate Marty St. Louis.
“You had to ruin it for everybody else,” Malone joked as he retreated to a locker room at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon, a towel to his face.
Said St. Louis: “It was an accident.”
It is believed Malone, who left the rink with blood caked in his eyebrow and his eye closed, needed stitches to close the wound, though that could no be immediately confirmed.
The left wing is the second Lightning player injured at informal skates being held during the NHL lockout. Defenseman Eric Brewer needed six stitches to close cuts around his left eye caused by a deflected puck.
