Tocchet: G Mike Smith not likely to play on road trip

Though G Mike Smith (neck strain) is improving, he didn't skate again Saturday morning in Sunrise, and coach Rick Tocchet acknowledged Smith probably won't be playing on this three-game road trip, which ends Tuesday in New York.

Tocchet has said Smith is a lot better, he'd like to get him in a couple practices before he gets back to game action. When asked if Smith would play on the trip, Tocchet said, "probably not."

"I wouldn't say for sure, but I don't think so, I mean he hasn't been on the ice yet," Tocchet said. "So we'd at least got to get a bunch of practices for him before he starts to start."

Tocchet said his lineup will be the same tonight, with Antero Niittymaki in net. Tocchet said Todd Fedoruk (lower body injury) could be cleared to play as early as tonight, but he wants to him a couple hard skates before he gets in, too.

"We'll see who plays well tonight - we're on a game-to-game basis with some guys," Tocchet said.
