Vinny Lecavalier and Marty St. Louis (at least occassionally) will be linemates

One of the most interesting parts of training camp will be to see how Tampa Bay Lightning coach Guy Boucher constructs his lines. There was some speculation he might reunite center Vinny Lecavalier and wing Marty St. Louis, who were such a dynamic pairing for a couple of seasons. On Wednesday, Boucher said it is something he will not only look at but try.

"Will they play together all the time? I switch things around. I look for different options," Boucher said. "They might not start together, but they will play together at some point, whether it's power play or five-on-five."

Boucher has great respect for both players. Even if they are not playing on the same line, he said he referees to them as "the tandem."

The reason: "I think they're the face of the organization," Boucher said. "They know how to win. They've done it before. In the end, when you look at the Tampa Bay Lightning, Lecavalier and St. Louis are two names that come to mind. These guys know how to do it. Let's tap into what they've done before and what they know how to do."

If you recall, Lecavalier and St. Louis was the NHL's most dynamic pairing from 2006-08. During the 2006-07 season, Lecavalier had 52 goals and 108 points and St. Louis had 43 goals and 102 points. St. Louis, though, was moved permanently to a line centered by Steven Stamkos midway through the 2008-09 season. That pairing last season was almost as productive. Lecavalier, on the other hand, has played mostly with a series of linemates who, along with the center, have underperformed.

"It's exciting," Lecavalier said about the chance to play at least part time with his old linemate. "I know we can play well together. Every time we play together we have success."

"Obviously, I played a long time with Vinny and it's always exciting," St. Louis said. "I'm trying to get that offensive flair we've had in the past. If I do play with Vinny and trying to get back that offensive killer instinct we had for a couple years. I know it's there. We just have to find it."
