The Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday signed defenseman Keith Aulie to a one-year, two-way contract. Aulie, 23, had a goal, two points and was minus-5 in 19 games after he was acquired in February from the Maple Leafs for center Carter Ashton. Aulie would need to pass through waivers if Tampa Bay wants him with AHL Syracuse.

So, Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur has hired agent Pat Brisson to handle his contract negotiations. That set off a flurry of speculation the future Hall of Famer is serious about testing free agency, and even some speculation the Tampa Bay Lightning would be a place Brodeur might land.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will have 30 players at the July 3-7 development camp at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon, including first-rounders defenseman Slater Koekkoek and goaltender Andrey Vasilevskiy. The camp is free and open to the public. A schedule has not been released.

The agent for newly acquired left wing Benoit Pouliot said he is "confident" his client will sign with the Tampa Bay Lightning despite not getting a qualifying offer.

"Couldn't think of a better landing spot than Tampa," agent Kent Hughes said.

After all with Filip Forsberg and Teuvo Teravainen (the top two European skaters) still available as well as hot-shot Mikhail Grigorenko, it seemed a logical expectation.

NHL releases 2012-13 Lightning schedule

The Tampa Bay Lightning opens the 2012-13 season Saturday, Oct. 13 at Florida, according to the schedule released today by the National Hockey League.

The home opener is Tuesday, Oct. 16 against the New York Islanders. It is the first of three consecutive home games before Tampa Bay embarks on a west coast trip to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.

The Lightning plays at the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 17.
