Lightning signs C Nate Thompson to a 4-year contract extension
The Lightning and center Nate Thompson have agreed to terms on a four-year, $6.4 million contract extension through 2016-17.
“It was important to get him locked up,” GM Steve Yzerman said. “He’s part of our future.”
Thompson, 28, has six goals, 10 points in 31 games, is a primary penalty killer, has won 50.8 percent of his faceoffs and leads the team with 61 hits.
“To show that confidence Steve has in me is a great feeling,” said Thompson, acquired in January 2010 off waivers from the Islanders. “I love this organization. I love the core group of guys. It’s just a great fit for me and a no-brainer.”
