Victor Hedman, Ryan Callahan out against Rangers
The injury hits keep on coming for the already shorthanded Lightning.
Top defenseman Victor Hedman (upper body) and alternate captain Ryan Callahan (lower body) will miss tonight's game with the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Lightning considers both players day to day. Hedman took an elbow to the head Monday night by Islanders Thomas Hickey, who got two minute penalty for roughing.
Those are two key players to lose, considering the Lightning is already without leading scorer Steven Stamkos (vascluar surgery) and top defenseman Anton Stralman (fractured left leg) into the playoffs.
With Hedman and Callahan out, defenseman Slater Koekkoek and wing Jonathan Marchessault will return to the lineup tonight.
That means the Lightning is without its top two defensemen in Hedman and Stralman, and another top-six forward/power play/penalty killer in Callahan. Tampa Bay won't play until Thursday after tonight, so depending on how Hedman and Callahan recover, you might see a callup from AHL Syracuse (RW Jonathan Drouin anyone?).
The Lightning needs one point tonight to clinch a playoff spot, or any kind of loss by Boston.
