With D Hedman injured, Matt Taormina is called up from AHL Syracuse

With Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury sustained in the first period of Thursday's 5-0 victory over the Hurricanes, Matt Taormina was called up from AHL Syracuse. He will join the team for Saturday's game with the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.

In 50 games this season with the Crunch, Taormina, 26, had four goals, 21 points, 19 penalty minutes and was plus-6. Taormina has appeared in 47 NHL games, all with the Devils, with four goals and 12 points.

Given Hedman plays as a top-two defenseman for Tampa Bay, it makes sense the Lightning called up Taormina, who at least has some NHL experience, as opposed to Mark Barberio, who has greater offensive sensibilities but has yet to play an NHL game.
